Who Am I

I'm Josh Baker, a Network Architect based in Oxfordshire. I design and modernise network infrastructure for the University of Oxford's Department of Engineering Science — one of the University's largest departments, supporting research spanning robotics to biomedical engineering.

I built my expertise from the ground up: starting in hands-on network engineering before progressing to architecture-level design for one of the most complex, mission-critical environments in the sector. I understand a network from the switch in the rack to the strategic decisions that keep an entire estate secure, scalable, and resilient — because I've done both.

My work has been formally recognised with a 2024 Excellence Award and a Head of Department Award for outstanding contribution and impact.

What People Are Saying

"Josh inherited a substantial, heterogeneous network estate at Oxford's Department of Engineering Science — one of the University's largest, spanning research from robotics to biomedical engineering. He redesigned it and executed a phased, section-by-section replacement with minimal disruption to live research, largely independently. He's rigorous, reliable, and communicates equally well with engineers and senior stakeholders. I'd recommend him without hesitation to any organisation modernising complex network infrastructure."
